Hey everyone,I wanted to share a quick write-up about my recent setup, since I know a lot of people are curious about running Star Citizen on Linux.
My Setup
I recently configured a dual-boot system with Windows and Linux, running Nobara Linux alongside my usual Windows installation. Once everything was set up, I decided to see how Star Citizen would perform under Linux.Part of the motivation for this change is that I’ve become increasingly frustrated with Microslop 11. While AI tools definitely have their place and can be useful in certain workflows, I don’t need them embedded into every part of my operating system or pushed into every app. The constant prompts, ads, and nag screens have made the overall experience feel more intrusive than helpful.
Because of that, I started looking for an OS that gives the user more control over their system, and Linux delivers exactly that.
Some people mention that Linux can require a bit of setup or occasional tinkering, but honestly that hasn’t been an issue for me. I’ve been around since the Windows 98 and XP days, when configuring and tweaking your system was just part of using a PC. Compared to those days, modern Linux distributions like Nobara make things surprisingly straightforward.
CPU: Intel 14700KF
Memory: 64 GB DDR5
GPU: AMD 7900 XTX
The results honestly surprised me.
Performance
In most areas the performance is equal to Windows, and in some locations I’ve actually seen up to ~20% better performance compared to my Windows install. Frame pacing also feels very smooth, and overall stability has been excellent.Linux gaming has come a long way, and Star Citizen is a great example of that progress.
Hardware Support
One of my main concerns was controller and peripheral support, but everything is now working perfectly:- VKB Gladiator joysticks configured and running great
- Steam Decks connected and functioning exactly how I wanted
- All inputs recognized and configurable within Linux without major headaches
The Real Hero: LUG Helper Script
If you're thinking about trying Star Citizen on Linux, the Linux User Group (LUG) tools make the process incredibly easy. The setup script available here:

…does an amazing job of automatically configuring a Linux system to run Star Citizen almost out of the box. It handles a lot of the tricky setup steps that would normally take time to figure out manually.
Need Help?
Another huge advantage is the LUG community itself. If you run into issues, it’s easily the best place to get help with Star Citizen on Linux. The community there is extremely knowledgeable and always willing to help troubleshoot setups.Final Thoughts
Running Star Citizen on Linux used to be more of an experiment. Now it’s genuinely a viable daily-driver setup, and with distributions like Nobara plus the LUG helper script, getting started is easier than ever.If you're curious about Linux gaming or just want to try something new, I definitely recommend giving it a shot.
